Guidance for setting up an inventory, using QR labels, finding and moving items, sharing Cloud storage spaces, and managing your data.
Getting started
Why can inventory appear before Cloud finishes loading?
After a successful synchronization, Rattib keeps an encrypted saved copy of inventory metadata for faster startup and read-only continuity. Cloud remains the source of truth, and Rattib reconciles automatically when it can connect.
The saved copy is bound to the signed-in session, app environment, API contract, and server generation. It contains no offline change queue and no cached photo bytes.
What should I create as a storage space?
Create a record at the level that helps you find things. It can represent an individual space or bin, a drawer, shelf, cabinet, closet, storage unit, room, or another location.
For detailed storage, use the location field to create a useful path, such as “Storage Unit · Rack A2 · Shelf 3.”
How do I add many items quickly?
Open Add, choose a destination space, and use Quick Add. Take a photo, enter a short name, review the prepared items, and submit. Use the full Add Item form when you need quantity, tags, category, condition, value, or detailed notes.
Can I customize item categories?
Yes. Open Profile, choose Manage Categories, enter a name, select an icon, and add the category. Custom categories can be removed; the required default category remains available.
QR labels and search
How does a QR label work?
Each QR label carries the space’s unique identity and opens that exact record when scanned. The QR identity remains connected even if you later change the space name, status, location, or display label.
Labels such as SPACE_001 are display references and may appear on more than one space; they are not the unique identity used by the QR code.
How do I print or share a QR label?
Open the storage-space detail page and select the QR control. From there, use the available share or print action. When creating a new record, Save & Print QR can complete both steps together.
What if the camera cannot scan the QR label?
Check camera permission in device Settings, improve the lighting, make sure the full QR label is visible, and try again with the camera steady. The Scan tab can retry camera access after permission changes.
Why does scanning someone else’s space request access?
A QR code identifies the space; it does not bypass its permissions. Scanning a Cloud space you cannot already access creates a share request for an Owner to review.
Items, movement, and history
How do I move an item to another storage space?
Open the item, choose Move to Storage Space, select a destination or scan its QR label, review the confirmation, and complete the move. The new location and activity history update together.
What does Retrieved mean?
Retrieved means the item remains in your inventory but is currently outside its recorded storage space. Use Move Back when it returns, or move it into a different destination.
Why can’t I delete a storage space?
Rattib prevents deletion while items are still assigned to that storage space. Move, retrieve, or delete those items first so their location is not lost accidentally.
What appears in History?
History can show additions, edits, photo changes, status changes, item movements, retrievals, returns, and deletions. Select an available entry to open its related record.
Cloud synchronization and sharing
What do sharing permissions mean?
Owner can edit inventory and photos, invite members, approve QR share requests, and manage member permissions. A space can have multiple Owners.
Guest is strictly read-only and cannot change inventory or manage members.
How do I invite someone?
Open a Cloud space, choose Share or Manage Sharing, enter the person’s Rattib username, choose Owner or Guest, and send the invitation. Sharing is available directly for Cloud spaces and does not use an email address.
How do QR share requests work?
When someone scans a Cloud space they cannot access, they can send a share request. An Owner reviews the request and decides whether to approve it as Owner or Guest.
Do I need to start synchronization manually?
No. Cloud synchronization is automatic while you are signed in. Rattib reconciles at startup, when the app resumes, and while recovering from a temporary connection failure. A status indicator shows when Cloud is synchronized, working, or unavailable.
You may try again immediately, but transient failures also retry automatically with a bounded delay of up to about 30 seconds.
What happens when the internet connection breaks?
If a valid saved copy exists, it remains visible and is clearly read-only until Cloud is available. Rattib does not queue edits or silently resubmit an uncertain change. A first launch with no saved copy must connect before inventory records can appear.
Account and data
Can I use Rattib without an account?
No. Rattib is a cloud-authoritative app and requires Sign in with Apple or Google. Password signup, login, and recovery are not available. A previously synchronized signed-in account may view its encrypted saved metadata while temporarily offline, but cannot make changes until Cloud reconnects.
How do I delete Cloud inventory or my account?
Open Profile and choose Delete All Cloud Data to remove Cloud inventory while keeping the account, or Delete Account and All Data to remove the account and associated Cloud data. Review the confirmation carefully because deletion cannot be undone.
What happens to the saved copy when I sign out or delete my account?
Rattib clears the encrypted saved inventory payload and its local encryption key during sign-out and account deletion. The saved copy is not a separate inventory and cannot be kept for another account.
